  3. Installing a new copy of SRE
  4. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
  5.    Welcome to SRE 0.970.  To install this program is somewhat involved, but
  6. here are the steps (the process will be automated by the time SRE 1.0 is
  7. released):
  8.  
  9.   1.  Type SRINSTAL to set up the doorfile information and create a
  10.       batch file.
  11.  
  12.          The doorfile information allows SRE to interpret the doorfile
  13.          created by the BBS every time it runs a door.  Currently there
  14.          is support for RBBS, GAP, WWIV, Wildcat, and Spitfire door files.
  15.          The corresponding filenames are DORINFO1.DEF, DOOR.SYS, CHAIN.TXT,
  16.          CALLINFO.BBS, and SFDOORS.DAT.  If you require a different door
  17.          format, delete SETUP.SR and run SRDOOR.  It explains the format
  18.          of DOORFILE.SR.  You can:
  19.            ■ Write a replacement for SRDOOR that handles your door format.
  20.            ■ Insert a door file converter program before SRDOOR.
  21.            ■ Send us your door file format and specify which lines contain:
  22.              » Name (First AND Last, or Entire)
  23.              » COM port number
  24.              » baud rate
  25.              » IBM graphics characters enabled?  (optional information)
  26.              » ANSI enabled?                     (optional information)
  27.              » Number of lines on the screen     (optional information)

  29.       If you set up a batch file manually, it must
  30.          A.  Change directory (CD) to the SRE directory.
  31.          B.  Copy the door file from the BBS directory to the SRE directory.
  32.          C.  Run SRDOOR to convert the door file to the SRE user data file.
  33.          D.  Run SRE
  34.          E.  Delete the door file (optional, but suggested)
  35.          F.  Delete DOORFILE.SR
  36.          G.  Change directory (CD) back to the BBS directory.
  37.          H.  Exit
  38.       NOTE:  The SRINSTAL program will attempt to setup the batch
  39.              file automatically, so try it first!

  41.   Example for Telegard running from C:\TELEGARD and SRE running from C:\SRE

  54.   3.  Install the door to run the batch file (SRE.BAT) from the BBS.
  55.       (See your BBS manual if you do not know how to do this.)

  57.   4.  RESET the game with "SRE RESET".
  58.  
  59. Upgrading an older version of SRE
  60. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
  61.    Just UNZIP the SRE.ZIP file --- the important files are SREHELP.TXT,
  62. SRE.EXE, SRDOOR.EXE, and SRCONST.DAT.  Your old game will still work, but
  63. sometimes certain features of the new game may not work correctly.  A
  64. RESET will enable all features of the new version to work, but until then
  65. you can still continue your old game.

  67. Have fun with the game, and be sure to fill out the registration!  If you
  68. would like to register, fill out the form in SREREG.TXT.  If you do not
  69. want to register the game, please fill out the unregistration form, in
  70. SREUNREG.TXT.  We would like to know what BBS you use and we will give
  71. you an account on our BBS.  You may also receive update notices.
